At home surfing the net we find comfort in the online pics of the latest celebrity. Comments, videos, news and gossip are immortalized in Virtuality. A world where our reality is consciously shaped by our likes and preferences. A place where there's something to do every minute of every day.
We spend hours watching the video of a cat following the green led light on the floor instead of feeding one. Playing a game on a server in Taiwan, following the laws of algorithms instead of physics. Chatting with an avatar of a person instead of your neighbor. Growing your followers instead of growing yourself. Because is not who we wish we were but who we are. And we are online people instead of people who are online.
And I don't write as somebody who is free from this malaise but as a person affected by the wasting of life online. We are loosing our chance to breathe and enjoy these minutes. To smell
these seconds. To be one with God and the greatness of our world. To
see the beauty of a rainbow, not through a picture but outside our
window. To feel the mustiness of a humid day in July. To argue face to
face with a friend after a game of soccer. To cement or create
relationships. To experience the real stars in a dark night and be in awe of the moment and the smallness of you.
Not caring about videos or news or showing what you know or
where you've been or what you're eating or who you know but to experience
life. Leaving
the world of apps, games and links where it belongs. In the servers of a
reality that it's not only virtual but fake.
